A Questio of Taste
Economy
is fine
and if you
want it to rhyme
that’s OK too
But if you want to describe the exact correlation between a passing frown and chronic
consternation, or categorize the russet shades of autumn leaves in all the raked up variations a poet perceives:
you need to delve into dictionaries
thumb through thesauri
linger over Latin quotations
amuse yourself with onomatopoeia
litter the sheet with alliteration
detail the filigree fineness of every leaf
the scraping of each knotted branch
the scratch of each twig snapping as you climb higher
up to the leafy summit of description
pick the choicest fruit
bite into its juicy freshness
laugh at the ground
so far below
juice dribbling
jubilantly
down
your
chin
